Introduction

My name is Shixiao Chen and my English name is Rivid. I will tell you something interesting about my English name. One day, I read an article said the most popular names in England are David and Richard, and I want to be a popular person. So I put these two names together and create a new name Rivid. I finished my undergraduate program and got the bachelor’s degree in a famous university in China when I was 23. And I published a paper in The Journal of New Economics when I was about to graduate. And then, I had worked in China Construction Bank as an accountant for almost 2 years. When I was working, I felt that I did not have enough knowledge to advance my career. So I applied to the MS in Accounting to start my further study. The MS in Accounting will give me the chance to achieve my goal of being an AICPA and get a perfect job.

Body

I studied accounting in my undergraduate program in Southwest Jiaotong University. And in the study of major courses, I learned financial accounting, management accounting, Chinese tax, and auditing. There was a very interesting event when I was studying in this university. The first day I went to my university, the professor told us to write down the word of accounting in Chinese and I wrote it wrong. So the result is that the professor forced me to copy “Accounting” 500 times. So I can understand the meaning of accounting more deeply than others because I thought of accounting every time I wrote it. And I can write “Accounting” with the best speed. I continue studying accounting in the US now because I love accounting very much. So my major was not changed. But I found that the accounting itself in the US is different from it in China, such as the accounting principles. So I have to adjust the way to learn it.

After graduation from my university, I got into a big company named China Construction Bank. In the process of my work, I often faced many difficulties. And I found that I could not deal with all the problems I faced. For example, once there was a wrong number in an account, but I just knew it was wrong and did not know where it was wrong. Then, my partner helped me deal with the problem. It was just about the decimal point. I felt myself so naive. And then, the manager of that company just gave me simple works to do because he thought I just can do those simple works. So I thought I was not up to this job based on my major knowledge in that time. For the reasons I mentioned above, I decided to start learning again to strengthen my major skills. All the difficulties encouraged me to submit my resignation and pursue a graduate degree.

When I got into pathway program, I did not know the meaning of it until I started to take it. Pathway program help me improve my English skills and teach me many writing skills in academic field. These skills could help me read and write articles in my major easily. And I can study in the graduate program easier than others because my enough preparation in pathway program. Before I took into pathway program, I had gotten my GMAT score. The score is 650 and meets the requirement to get into the graduate program. And I have to meet some other requirements in the pathway program, such as GPA 3.2 and at lease B in every course.

Last year, I chose Mason’s MS in Accounting to start my further study. Because George Mason University located in Fairfax. It is very closed to Washington D.C so I think I could have more work opportunities in this place. On the other hand, Mason’s Business School and Accounting major are all certificated by AACSB, the highest level certification of business school. I think I could learn advanced knowledge and skills of accounting in this university. As for me, I think I am a good fit for the accounting program, because I studied accounting in my undergraduate program for 4 years and I worked as an accountant for 2 years. So I know how to learn accounting and I know what I want in this major. And I have many fundamental skills to deal with problems on accounting. I could help classmates and professors do something I am able to. So I think they should be happy to have me in the program. Furthermore, my creativity and competitiveness could bring the program some benefits. I will contribute myself to this program including my diligence, resourcefulness, and the communication skills. My diligence and resourcefulness could help me learn in class well. And the communication skills could help me study with others well.

After my graduation from graduate school, I could have the chance to take the CPA exams and become an AICPA. As a result of graduate school, I can take the next step in advancing my career.

Conclusion

Accounting is part of who I am, and I am excited to contribute to the field and grow my knowledge in Mason’s MAS program. I could not only learn knowledge and skills in this program but also I could take some benefits based on my working skills to this program. So, I am a good fit for this program.
